WR Alex Watson, Northern Arizona
Josh: What is your current height, weight and workout numbers?
Alex: My height is 5'10 or a little under and my weight is 181. I ran a 4.46 40. My bench max is 305 and we haven't done the shuttle. My vertical is 36 inches.
Josh: Did you play any other sports in high school besides football?
Alex: I ran track.
Josh: Do you have any relatives who played in the NFL?
Alex: I have an uncle named Greg Townsend who played for Raiders and Eagles in mid 90s.
Josh: What do you feel are your strengths and weaknesses?
Alex: My strengths would have to be my quickness and shiftiness. Other strengths are my ability to catch with my hands and getting off of press. My weaknesses would be my size, beating double coverage, and I need to improve at run blocking.
Josh: Who is the best player you have faced in your career?
Alex: It would have to be Antoine Cason from my sophomore year.
Josh: Who is the best player on your team?
Alex: I would have to go with a couple players. K.J. Gerard, a CB, or Ricky Wilson who is a CB on our team.
Josh: Is there anyone else on your team who you feel has the potential to play in the NFL?
Alex: I feel like Skyler Moore and Kenny Mahone who are receivers as well. K.J. Gerard and Ricky Wilson also have potential. I would add this other CB Chris Theus.
Josh: You had a big year last season. What would you attribute to your breakout season?
Alex: I would say my chemistry with the quarterback and hard work in the summer. I never take a day off and wanting to be the best.
Josh: Who will start at quarterback this year?
Alex: We have two. One is a transfer from Fresno State .
Josh: What did being named an All-American mean to you?
Alex: It just meant that all my hard work I put in paid off. It got recognized by a lot of people. It just meant that I was one step closer of achieving my dream of playing in the NFL one day.
Josh: Do you expect to be a Payton Award candidate in the preseason?
Alex: I don't expect to be but a lot of people have told me I should be. In my mind what makes me a legitimate candidate is that I continue to elevate my game and I can do everything one notch better than what I did last year.
Josh: What are your goals for this coming season?
Alex: Just to get through that tough schedule 3-0. We have Western New Mexico, Arizona , and two-time champs Appalachian State. Personally, I just want to continue to elevate my game. I am just trying to be the best receiver possible. Whether it is another breakout with over 1,000 yards or a year with 800 yards I just want to help my team and be a leader.
Josh: What are your future goals?
Alex: My ultimate goal is to play in the NFL and second I want to own my own business. I am really big in the restaurant industry and I am looking into the different aspects of owning my own restaurant.
