2008 NFL Mock Draft
by Sean Baca

March 17, 2008

1. Miami (1-15)
Chris Long, DE, Virginia

Perhaps the safest pick in the draft but Matt Ryan here would not be a stunner.

2. St. Louis (3-13)
Jake Long, OT, Michigan

The Rams lost a lot of linemen and none more important than Pace so they need a replacement quickly.

3. Atlanta (4-12)
Matt Ryan, QB, Boston College

The Falcons must rebuild from the ground up and starting at QB is as good a place as any to begin construction.

4. Oakland (4-12)
Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas

Al Davis has proven time and time again that his love for potential is overwhelming.

5. Kansas City (4-12)
Chris Williams, OT, Vanderbilt

I have Clady ranked higher but I think the more aggressive Williams might fit the Chiefs style better.

6. N.Y. Jets (4-12)
Glenn Dorsey, DT, LSU

The Jets defense needs some attitude and Dorsey brings that and more to the table.

7. New England (From San Francisco) (5-11)
Leodis McKelvin, CB, Troy

Yes I have him ranked third but he is the most versatile of the top corners and I think the Pats will prefer his speed over the others and recent losses make the secondary a number one priority.

8. Baltimore (5-11)
Jeff Otah, OT, Pittsburgh

With the looming retirement of Ogden, the Ravens need to look for a viable replacement, Clady may be a little too "finesse" for the Ravens style.

9. Cincinnati (7-9)
Vernon Gholston, DE, Ohio State

Ellis is also a great choice but the dynamic ability of Gholston may win out on this one.

10. New Orleans (7-9)
Sedrick Ellis, DT, USC

I doubt he will drop to the tenth pick but if team needs dictates that he does, the Saints get a great addition to an ailing defensive line.

11. Buffalo (7-9)
Malcolm Kelley, WR, Oklahoma

There are many people that have a different receiver going number one but in my opinion Kelley is the best in this years draft, not by much but by enough.

12. Denver (7-9)
Ryan Clady, OT, Boise State

The Broncos addressed the MLB position in free agency and that allows them to concentrate on replacing the retired Matt Lepsis at LT.

13. Carolina (7-9)
Pat Sims, DT, Auburn

Many people like Balmer over Sims and I would not argue the point but I personally love the way Sims eats up his area and hold his ground.

14. Chicago (7-9)
Brian Brohm, QB, Louisville

I think it's safe to say that the Bears have a few needs, they are addressing the WR situation in free agency but still need a face for the organization.

15. Detroit (7-9)
Rashard Mendenhall, RB, Illinois

Again, with the tackles off the board and the Lions having cut Kevin Jones, this pick becomes a little clearer, though a corner would be no surprise.

16. Arizona (8-8)
Antoine Cason, CB, Arizona

Again, I think Flowers is the better pure corner but the versatility of Cason makes him the more attractive first round choice.

17. Minnesota (8-8)
Quentin Groves, DE, Auburn

The Vikings already have the powerful line but they need speed from the edge, Merling won't fit so the choice comes down to Groves or Harvey.

18. Houston (8-8)
Jonathan Stewart, RB, Oregon

This seems to be the consensus, the Texans need a RB, but with the latest news of Stewart's toe injury, they could go with any number of the top backs in the class.

19. Philadelphia (8-8)
Kenny Phillips, S, Miami

Phillips is the best all around safety in the draft and the Eagles need a guy next to Dawkins, wide receiver would also make a world of sense at this pick.

20. Tampa Bay (9-7)
Limas Sweed, WR, Texas

He isn't the burner that DeSean Jackson is but his playmaking ability is what the Bucs desperately need.

21. Washington (9-7)
Derrick Harvey, DE, Florida

The Skins need O-line help and wideout help as well, but IF Harvey falls to them, they solve their pass rush problems for the next 5-10 years.

22. Dallas (from Cleveland (10-6))
Brandon Flowers, CB, Virginia Tech

Everyone knows they need help at the corner position and Flower's has the aggressive game that will match up well in Big D.

23. Pittsburgh (10-6)
Branden Albert, G, Virginia

His versatility and all around game will dictate he is gone in the first and the Steelers will gladly fill a need with the classes best interior lineman

24. Tennessee (10-6)
James Hardy, WR, Indiana

Again I am conflicting with my rankings but the big play ability of Hardy is what the Titans need, Mario is more sound underneath but James is the homerun hitter.

25. Seattle (10-6)
Carl Nicks, OT, Nebraska

The Seahawks need to get lanes opened if Julius is to be successful and protecting Hasselbeck is of the utmost importance.

26. Jacksonville (11-5)
Phillip Merling, DE, Clemson

Jacksonville gets the animal they need to disrupt the passing game and create opportunities for others.

27. San Diego (11-5)
Reggie Smith, S/CB, Oklahoma

Reggie can play along side Weddle for ten years or slide over to corner, the losses of McCree and Florence creates a void for the Chargers secondary.

28. Dallas (13-3)
Mario Manningham, WR, Michigan

Mario is a top flight receiver despite his 40 time in Indy, he can run every route and will help keep the offense prolific through the air.

29. San Francisco (From Indianapolis (13-3))
Gosder Cherilus, OT, Boston College

I know they need a wide receiver and there are still a number of quality guys on the board, but rumors circle that the Niners brass liked Cherilus in Mobile.

30. Green Bay (13-3)
Mike Jenkins, CB, South Florida

He could have a few seasons to adjust and then slide seamlessly into the starting rotation behind the first to retire (Woodson or Harris)

31. New England (16-0)
Forfeited

32. NY Giants (10-6)
Keith Rivers, LB, USC

First off let me say NO, he won't be around this late but as I filled in the team needs, linebacker was not at the top of the list, however someone who can take the B.P.A. will take Keith far earlier than 32nd pick.
