John Greco will be a starter in the NFL for eight to ten years, he can play guard or tackle. He was my #1 player left on the board, and I expect him to start from day one for a St. Louis team that needs help all over the line.
Congrats John!

Q: How does it feel to be the highest-paid offensive lineman? And do you have any plans for investing that money?
Jake Long: You know, it’s crazy to think that, but having that over my head makes me go out there and work hard to show people that I’ve earned it, and that I’ve got to go out there and prove to people that it was the right choice. You know, I’m going to be putting my money in the bank and not touching it for a while.
Q: you talked about wanting to get on the field next season. Is it your attitude maybe that the best way to learn is going to be on the field?
Matt Ryan: Well, I don’t think there is a right or wrong way to do it. Guys have been successful coming in and playing, and guys have been successful coming in and learning from the bench. But for me, as a player, you want to be out on the field. So I’m going to do everything I can to prepare myself to be in the best position to play next year.
Q: Did your dad give you any guidance in this whole process?
Chris Long: No, he just told me to be myself. You know, control what I can control. Towards the end, actually, I had to flip the advice on him because he was very nervous, he was more nervous than me, you know. And we had to look at it like this, you know — played all the football I can play in college, the tape is there, the Combine’s over, Pro Day’s over. Let the chips fall where they may today, and that’s what happened.
Q: Excited to go against Jake twice a year now?
Vernon Gholston: (Laughs) I’m not really sure about that. My job is just to get with the team, work as hard as I can. And if that presents itself, then, you know, I’ll be looking forward to it.
Donnie Avery the first wideout off the board - if you were reading Russ Lande’s stuff this week, that should not have shocked you. His raw speed is right there with Jackson. Jordy Nelson the third wideout off the board will provide instant value for Green Bay as a punt returner, and another physical presence in the slot with James Jones. Aaron Rodgers certainly won’t fail for a lack of weapons in the passing game.
Look at those names still on the board at wide receiver. Should be fun to see where they land.
If rumors are to be believed, Scott Linehan lost out when the Rams selected Chris Long. I would have certainly been pushing for Glenn Dorsey if I had a role. I hold Matt Ryan in high regard, but I still think Dorsey *should* have been the pick for Atlanta. If Dorsey ends up falling to Kansas City (we’re assuming McFadden becomes a Raider), then they automatically become one of the biggest winners of the first round. The Saints should be lighting up the phones right now to get their hands on Dorsey.
Poor Thomas Dimitroff – you’re the new GM, you have the #3 overall pick, and the owner makes it for you. Poor Mike Smith, you have a chance to get one of the best defensive tackles to come down the pike in the last 5-10 years, and build the same kind of defense that you built in Jacksonville, and the owner takes the franchise QB. The next question is, what week does Ryan debut? My guess is no earlier than 5, no later than 10.
Word at the draft is that Scott Linehan desperately wanted Glenn Dorsey as the #2 pick, but everyone else in the organization was behind Chris Long. Looks like the head coach didn’t get his way.
For my money, Dorsey would’ve been the right call. Nothing against Long, but Dorsey’s one of the best college linemen I’ve ever seen. And when you can get run *and* pass disruption from the inside of your D-line, that’s remarkably valuable. Ask the Titans, who were great with Haynesworth and swiss cheese without him. I’m confident the Rams’ new DE will be good, but barring injury, Dorsey will be great.
Like last year’s truly great player, Adrian Peterson, looks like Dorsey’s in for a minor slide… unless Atlanta’s brass overrules Arthur Blank and takes him.
