Fascinating Fifth Rounders

136. Kenneth Moore, WR, Detroit - Not a burner, or a big man, but a dependable target, and a good underneath/slot target, but don’t the Lions have Mike Furrey and Shaun McDonald for that?

139. Ryan Torain, RB, Denver - The annual ritual of fantasy footballers scrambling for the rookie Denver RB as the sleeper pick of the draft will be renewed again this year. Torain is a powerful back, and if his foot is healed, he might be the most physically talented back on the roster.

142. Zachary Bowman, CB, Chicago - Bowman has suffered some devastating knee injuries, but his speed seems to be intact, and he could end up being a starter if he plays as well in the pros as he did this year at Nebraska.

153. Matt Slater, ST, New England - New England spends a fifth on a special teams demon. I like it. At this point in the draft, a player who can be an emergency player on offense or defense and become the star of the special teams coverage units is a NICE pick.

156. Dennis Dixon, QB, Pittsburgh - Kordell Stewart. Hines Ward. Antwaan Randle-el. Version 4.0: Dennis Dixon.

NFL Fans Heart the Patriots

Every time the Patriots get mentioned, or shown on the big screen, or someone coughs and it remotely sounds like “Belicheck”, the entire place boos. The NFL should send them residuals on the TV deal because the league finally has the villain to keep fans interested even when their team isn’t playing. The Pats have now reached Yankees status - Everyone’s second favorite team is “Whoever is playing the Pats”

Very Reasonable Price for New Orleans to Move Up, Not So Much for the Jags

Swapping a third for a fifth to get ahead of Cincinnati and snag Ellis. Then the Jags trade up to poach Derrick Harvey right before their eyes. Do the Bengals now take Keith Rivers as the DBPA? Maybe take OL2? Either way, they should feel very important that two teams gave up valuable draft capital to leapfrog them. Sorry Bramel and Norton, you guys got a wedgie today. Five defensive linemen in the first eight picks - I think it’s clear where the strength of this draft lies.

Meanwhile, the Jags gave up about the same price to get Derrick Harvey as what Minnesota gave up to get Jared Allen. Well done, Vikes, and well done Ravens. Now the Ravens are sitting pretty to take Chad Henne/Brian Brohm/Joe Flacco at 26. Stay tuned.

Paging Sedrick Ellis

You’re about to hear your name called. Why do I have this sinking feeling that the Pats will fleece New Orleans in this trade?
