Sixth Round Storylines

Trevor Scott, DE, Oakland - Oakland is thin at DE, even if Tommy Kelly slides over. Scott is an athlete, but his pass rush skills didn’t seem to translate at Texas Vs the Nation.

Marcus Henry, WR, New York Jets - The Jets needed a big, rangy target like Henry for the red zone. I expect him to make the roster.

Josh Morgan, WR, San Francisco - There is definitely opportunity at wideout in San Francisco. Morgan is a 2nd/3rd round talent at his best, but his effort and focus wavers.

Jalen Parmele, RB, Miami - Parmele is good try hard guy and grinder between the tackles. Ronnie Brown is getting close to the end of his rookie deal and Ricky, well, we know you can’t count on Ricky, and he’s gettin’ old to boot. Don’t be surprised if Parmele gets carries this year.

Corey Lynch, S, Cincinnati - The Bengals took probably the most questionable character on Draftguys TV in Jason Shirley, and they follow it with squeaky clean Lynch. There is also opportunity at safety in the Queen City.

Spencer Larsen, LB, Denver - At the end of training camp, the Broncos may find that Larsen is best true MLB on their roster. He shouldn’t be in on third down, but Larsen will get Niko Koutovides a run for his money.

Colt Brennan, QB, Washington - They took the biggest pretender QB in the draft last year, Jordan Palmer. We’ll see if they went two for two.

Athyba Rubin, NT, Cleveland - A coke machine shaped guy that is a perfect 3-4 NT. Phil Savage strikes again.

I guess the Bengals are loving the show — this is their 3rd DGTV alum!

One of the most questionable guys in terms of character goes to the Bengals…

Welcome Jerome Simpson to the NFL:

Very Reasonable Price for New Orleans to Move Up, Not So Much for the Jags

Swapping a third for a fifth to get ahead of Cincinnati and snag Ellis. Then the Jags trade up to poach Derrick Harvey right before their eyes. Do the Bengals now take Keith Rivers as the DBPA? Maybe take OL2? Either way, they should feel very important that two teams gave up valuable draft capital to leapfrog them. Sorry Bramel and Norton, you guys got a wedgie today. Five defensive linemen in the first eight picks - I think it’s clear where the strength of this draft lies.

Meanwhile, the Jags gave up about the same price to get Derrick Harvey as what Minnesota gave up to get Jared Allen. Well done, Vikes, and well done Ravens. Now the Ravens are sitting pretty to take Chad Henne/Brian Brohm/Joe Flacco at 26. Stay tuned.

Best Player Available = The Winning Move

The Vikes had Chester Taylor, and so what? The Chiefs need OL help, but so what? Take the best guy, especially if he’s the best guy in the whole draft.

Reaching for Brandon Albert or Ryan Clady here would’ve been remarkably short-sighted. Instead, they get what I just mentioned earlier — a Haynesworth-level of terror for opposing offenses. With leadership. And character. Celebrate yourselves, KC! This was a steal. And you’ll find plenty of great help in the 2nd for your OL and secondary.

Meanwhilel, I think the Bengals screwed up as much as the Saints. A guy like Dorsey can turn around their weaker unit immediately, and if they want to alter their image, they could ask for no greater presence than Glenn Dorsey.
