Trade Up Targets

Teams have had all night to look at their boards and say “I can’t believe …… is still on the board!”. We always see some trade action at the beginning of the second day, and this year should be no different. Who are some of the players teams will be anglin’ for?

Jamaal Charles, RB, Texas - Is he really that different than Felix Jones? That kind of speed at RB is a coveted commodity, and easily worth a third round pick? And if McFadden’s fumbles can be overlooked at 4, Charles fumbles can certainly be overlooked in the 3rd.

Andre Caldwell, WR, Florida, Earl Bennett, WR, Vanderbilt, Early Doucet, WR, LSU, Mario Manningham, WR, Michigan - How is a WR with Caldwell’s speed and size still left on the board? Doucet and Bennett will do the dirty work and be their QB’s best friend on third down. And Mario… I don’t care about the wonderlic or the dope smoking, a player of his talent is absolutely worth the risk in the third round.

Dan Connor, LB, Penn State - Whatever athletic limitations he has are null and void now that we’ve entered the third round, and any 3-4 team should be working the phones to trade up for him… if Miami doesn’t take him.

Justin King, CB, Penn State, Orlando Scandrick, CB Boise State, Antwaun Molden, CB, Eastern Kentucky, Charles Godfrey, CB, Iowa - If Terrence Wheatley and Terrell Thomas are second rounds, these athletic corners are no brainers in the third.

DaJuan Morgan, S, NC State - Easily the top safety available in a weak draft at the position, I wouldn’t fault a team for giving up some draft capital to land him early on the second day.

Cliff Avril, OLB/DE, Purdue - When his name gets called, there will at least 4 or 5 3-4 teams that become sad pandas.
