Sometimes you draft your strength

New Orleans moved up in the 4th to take Antonio Pittman, and most initial reactions amounted to “Huh?!” They already have Bush and McAlister with Stecker and Branch backing them up — if there was one position they _didn’t_ need to bolster, it was probably RB.

But you know what? Sometimes you draft your strength. If we’ve learned anything from the Schaub trade and the rising value of Michael Turner, you can never have too much skill position talent. Eventually, someone will pony up bigtime for your excess riches.

In this case, if Pittman pans out, either he or McAlister becomes a movable commodity that could bring back much more than a 4th round pick. While Pittman doesn’t make the Saints noticeably better in game 1 of 2007, his value could bring long-term gains for New Orleans.
