2nd Round Hysteria - Continued

The list of picks that weren’t traded is much shorter than the list of picks that were traded. The power of psychology of the NFL draft never ceases to amaze me. Every year teams stampede to get picks at the top of the 2nd because a favorite player in the war room has fallen. Indy traded their 2008 first to San Fran to get Ugoh. San Diego gave up a 3rd, a 5th, and a 2008 3rd to the Bears to move up to take Eric Weddle. The Jets just traded a 3rd and swapped a 6th for a 7th to move up to get David Harris. It’s amazing to me that teams don’t feel compelled to be aggressive to take the higher level talents in the first, but get desperate in the 2nd. Of course, it could just be that no one wants to trade that first round because they love the talent they are going to get. In this year’s draft, with 20ish first rounders, and 45ish 2nd round talents, I expect the trade hysteria to continue.
