Discuss the rankings in The Top 10 TE Thread
Name | College | Height/Weight | |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Zach Miller | Arizona State | 6'5" 254 lbs. |
Miller has an all around game, he can run great routes and knows how to use his body to shield defenders, his hands and concentration make him the cream of the crop, he consistently catches the ball with arms extended away from his body, he has a good vertical leap and can pluck the ball away from smaller defenders, injuries are a slight concern. |

2 | Ben Patrick | Delaware | 6'4" 270 lbs. |
I love this kid, he showed great ball skills at the Shrine Game practices, and when he showed up at the Senior Bowl there were some that felt he would be outmatched by the better competition, quite the contrary - Patrick was making plays all day, he moves very well for a man his size, his hands are strong and big, he moves well after the catch, hard to bring down, blocking needs work - but he is a willing student of the game. |

3 | Greg Olsen | Miami (FL) | 6'4" 255 lbs. |
Sure, Olsen has the body and measurables to look the part of a NFL TE - but can he get it done on the field? A lack of production is my biggest red flag with Olsen, surely not in the same league as other great Hurricane TE's - Franks, Shockey, Winslow Jr., creates good separation and has solid hands, very tough and hard nosed player that uses his aggression as a motivator, good route runner, needs improvement at blitz recognition. |
|||
4 | Matt Spaeth | Minnesota | 6'7" 270 lbs. |
a very smart player that has a great size/speed combination, knows how to square up and present the biggest target to his QB, good focus when the ball is in the air, great hands and catching technique, good blocker, his speed will not impress. |
|||
5 | Joe Newton | Oregon State | 6'7" 257 lbs. |
good frame, nice size, knows how to sit down in the soft spot of the zone, uses his hands well to fight for position, tough player with a mean streak, uses his lower body strength to fight for extra yardage with defenders all over him, durability is a concern. |
|||
6 | Scott Chandler | Iowa | 6'6" 270 lbs. |
great sized TE, hard to get around to bat passes away from, long arms that he uses to pluck the ball out of the air, despite his size he is not an overly strong player, lacks speed. |
|||
7 | Clark Harris | Rutgers | 6'5" 261 lbs. |
Harris is a good but not great TE, he is not outstanding in one area - rather he is solid in most all aspects, knows how to get open, good route runner, short arms will hurt his prospects, lacks consistent focus. |
|||
8 | Kevin Boss | Western Oregon | 6'3" 248 lbs. |
love that name, is he the next basketball to great TE convert? great athlete with good hops, a bit of a project - more Wesley Duke than Antonio Gates. |
|||
9 | Gijon Robinson | Missouri Western State | 6'1" 255 lbs. |
aren't you a little short for a stormtrooper? good thing he's not joining the Empire, good athlete that knows how to run good routes, hands are top notch and his pass catching technique is textbook, needs to play with a consistent mean streak, where's that small man complex? |
|||
10 | Tyler Ecker | Michigan | 6'6" 251 lbs. |
needs to add more weight to his frame to be truly effective, good concentration and can make the tough catch look easy, classic underacheiver, doesn't have the speed to stretch the defense. |
