Josh Buchanan covers "pro hopefuls" for www.d2football.com, and helped select players for the Las Vegas All-American Classic and the Magnolia Gridiron Classic, and he was kind enough to share his small school prospect interviews with us.
OT Kurt Kutscher, Henderson State
Josh: What are your current measurables such as height, weight, 40, and bench reps?
Kurt: 6'7 325 pounds, 5.37 40, and 25 bench reps.
Josh: How did you end up at Henderson State?
Kurt: I played at Blinn Jr. College in Brenham Texas during the '04 and '05 seasons were coach Scott Maxfield was the head coach. He accepted the head coaching job at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia Arkansas , I transferred along with 20 other players from Blinn and three other coaches which was a very easy transition.
Josh: Where have you been training?
Kurt: I work out Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at HSU football weight room and work out in Little Rock on Tuesday and T hursday with a Personal Trainer on my speed and strength.
Josh: What do you want to work on most before the draft?
Kurt: My quickness, 40 time, and 225 bench rep max.
Josh: Who else is training with you?
Kurt: I work out with a few of my old teammates when I am not working out with my trainer.
Josh: What do you feel are your biggest strengths on the field?
Kurt: My knowledge of the game and my ability finish/punish players when I get the chance.
Josh: What are your biggest weaknesses on the field?
Kurt: I dwell on negative plays to much sometimes, when I should just move on and think about the next play and the rest of the game.
Josh: Do you have any players on your team who you feel will be solid NFL prospects next year?
Kurt: Yes, Garrett Manning WR 6'3" 215 lbs. 40 (4.41) Hallettsville , TX and Louis West OL 6' 8" 395 lbs. 40 (5.4) Baton Rouge , LA.
Josh: Which teams have shown the most interest in you so far?
Kurt: The St. Louis Rams, Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Giants, and Detroit Lions.
Josh: Do you have any expectations on draft day such as a round or team?
Kurt: Right now I don't have a definite round or team but there has been some talk about the 6-7 round with the St. Louis Rams and if that doesn't work out then I will be a high priority Free Agent. My expectations are to make it on a team or to get a chance to prove my ability in a camp.
Josh: What are your future goals outside of playing in the NFL?
Kurt: I plan to become a Game Warden or State Trooper back around my home town in San Marcos , TX .
