2008 NFL Draft Prospect Interview
by Josh Buchanan

Josh Buchanan covers "pro hopefuls" for www.d2football.com, and helped select players for the Las Vegas All-American Classic and the Magnolia Gridiron Classic, and he was kind enough to share his small school prospect interviews with us.

FS Tony LeZotte, James Madison

Josh: What is your current height, weight and workout numbers?

Tony: I am 6'0 1/4 and I am like 201 pounds. We haven't maxed out the bench press in a while. I don't know my vertical because we have never done that here. My bench is 310 and my squat is like 445.

Josh: Did you play any other sports in high school besides football?

Tony: I played baseball for four years, basketball for a year, and swimming for a year.

Josh: Do you have any relatives who played in the NFL?

Tony: No.

Josh: What do you feel are your strengths and weaknesses?

Tony: I think definitely tackling is strong. I am a good open field tackler. I think my field awareness is pretty good. I just need to work on man to man coverage and stuff like that.

Josh: Who is the best player you have faced in your career?

Tony: It is tough because I played against people like Marques Colston. I tell you a guy who I watched tape on and played against was Chris Henry. He didn't stay in the game too long against us. I guess you could go with Chris Henry from West Virginia .

Josh: Who is the best player on your team?

Tony: I really think Rodney Landers, our quarterback, is going to have a big year.

Josh: You have been a Buck Buchanan Award Candidate and All-American since your freshman year. What does that mean to you? Do you feel any pressure knowing that you will probably be hyped as the best defensive player by most media outlets?

Tony: Obviously that is an honor because they see how I play and it is an honor to be named to all the teams. Sure there is pressure. I feel it every time I walk on the field. I put more pressure on myself than anybody else does to be a good leader.

Josh: Is there an award you have not won that you want to win this year?

Tony: I would like to win the Buck Buchanan Award. That is the one I have not been lucky enough to win. Other than that I have been lucky to get a little of everything.

Josh: What is your favorite thing about playing on defense?

Tony: Definitely hitting somebody.

Josh: What do you like to do more, run coverage or pass coverage?

Tony: Run coverage like what I said it goes into what we do as a defense. I am a tackler and run defender. I play man to man. I am really known for putting hits on people.

Josh: You had experimented on offense some last year. Do you think you would like to play some offense in the NFL?

Tony: Not on the next level. I think I am a defensive guy. We could experiment with it this year too if injuries come up. As of right now I am just playing with the defense and going from there.

Josh: What memory sticks out most for you during your career so far?

Tony: Definitely winning the national championship. We played really well. My brother was even on the team. It made it that much more sweet you know.

Josh: What are your future goals?

Tony: I definitely want to play until people tell me I am not good enough. Other than that I am getting a degree from James Madison. I feel if it comes down to it I can work in sales of some sort.
