Josh Buchanan covers "pro hopefuls" for www.d2football.com, and helped select players for the Las Vegas All-American Classic and the Magnolia Gridiron Classic, and he was kind enough to share his small school prospect interviews with us.
DE/DT Kendall Langford, Hampton
Josh: What is your current height, weight and workout numbers?
Kendall: I am 6'5 1/2, 295 pounds. I ran a 4.9 in the 40 at my pro day. I hang clean 435, my bench is about 350 from when we maxed out in winter conditioning, and I don't know my vertical right off hand.
Josh: Did you play any other sports in high school besides football?
Kendall: Yes, I played basketball too.
Josh: Do you have any relatives who played in the NFL?
Kendall: No sir.
Josh: How old are you?
Kendall: Just turned 21 on January 27th.
Josh: After having 5 players invited to the 2007 NFL Combine do you feel that helps you because of all the attention they got?
Kendall: I think it has helped a lot because people are noticing players like Jerome Mathis as a rookie who made the Pro Bowl team and all of them going to the combine. I think it is a good thing and has helped me.
Josh: What do you feel are your strengths and weaknesses?
Kendall: My strengths I feel like are that I make plays, I am explosive, and I am physical. I need to work on my technique and playing a little lower. I would also say my stunting needs to be worked on.
Josh: You have played both tackle and end in college. Which position would you rather play in the pros or do you feel you are better at?
Kendall: I feel like I play better at end because I have been playing it most of my career. I think my stats have shown better than my freshman year when I played tackle.
Josh: Do you have any individual goals on the field for your senior season?
Kendall: Yes, I want to help my teammates get better. I want to make AP and SBN All-America, win the conference championship, and national championship.
Josh: What is the most appealing attribute about you in your opinion?
Kendall: I would say that being a big guy who can move and make a lot of plays. That would be it right there.
Josh: There is already talk of you being a day one prospect for the 2008 NFL Draft. What do you think about that and does that add pressure to you?
Kendall: My goal has always been to play in the NFL. As I got better and better it started opening my eyes more that I have a better shot now. To hear talk of possible first day, I think that is a big statement. I just have to live up to it.
Josh: Do you have any other prospects for 2008 or 2009 on your team to look out for?
Kendall: We got Marcus Dixon (DE), Vernon Bryant (DE/DT) who is converted linebacker, and Kenti Baird at safety. We have a running back named Kevin Beverly. That is about it right now because everyone else is just really young.
Josh: What is your best pass rush move?
Kendall: I have been told I have a nice rip and nice bull rush.
Josh: Who is the best player you have faced in your career?
Kendall: I would have to say the tackle from South Carolina State Clyde Reed.
Josh: Who is the best player on your team?
Kendall: I am not even sure to tell you the truth. We have so many good players. We will find out this season.
Josh: What are your future goals?
Kendall: I want to make it in the NFL. I want to be a first day draft pick and live a comfortable life. I want to take care of my family.
